Household vs population of block group

Hi All,

I'm glad to have found this group. I have been looking all around but can't find the answer to this - I have several ACS 2017 five year estimates datasets where there is an estimate total field (HD01_VD01). Is this an estimate of the number of households or the population in the block group?

In particular, I'm looking at tables B17010; B03002; B01101; B22010; B25044 and B09002.

Check out the Appendices in the summary file technical documentation. it gives the universe for each table.

Hi J Kennedy--

For any Census ACS table where you have the table ID, you can quickly look it up, one table at a time:
data.census.gov/.../table
Replace that parameter at the end of the URL with the table you want.

CensusReporter website is also good, and maybe more user-friendly
censusreporter.org/.../
Replace that parameter at the end of the URL with the table you want.

Going to either of those pages, you'll see the metadata for the table layout and the universe. For example: table B17010 universe is "Families".
