Question about DP02_0011PE

Hello, Someone in the Census Slack channel suggested I post a question here.  I hope this is an appropriate forum.

The following api call produces valid estimates for single person (no spouse) households in 2019:
https://api.census.gov/data/2019/acs/acs5/profile?get=NAME,DP02_0011PE&for=county%20subdivision:*&in=state:25%20county:017
But returns only -888888888 for 2020:
https://api.census.gov/data/2020/acs/acs5/profile?get=NAME,DP02_0011PE&for=county%20subdivision:*&in=state:25%20county:017

I checked the 2020 change guide here:  https://www2.census.gov/data/api-documentation/2020-5yr-api-changes.csv but can find no reference in a change to this variable.  Can anyone direct me to a new variable for this data or let me know if it's been deleted and I just can't find the change log?

Thanks very much...Jim C

  • All I can think of is that for the ACS 5 year 2020 files they are not presenting data for single parents with children in DP02 anymore.

You can get similar  data in B09005 (counts of children) which may serve your purpose.

    Also try:

B17012 POVERTY STATUS IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS OF FAMILIES BY HOUSEHOLD TYPE BY NUMBER OF RELATED CHILDREN UNDER 18 YEARS

You will need to add up over several categories.  The universe for this table is "Families"  If you need the count for "households -- non-families" i.e. people living alone without children you will need to get the extra counts from another table.
