I am searching for data on single male households with own children less than 18. Would the following variable be the correct one?
Male householder, no spouse/partner present, with children of the householder less than 18
Try using table B11003 - it breaks it down by gender and own children under age 18.

This is counts of children -- add up over employment status for single male householder.
If you wan counts of families use B11003 as noted below
