ALAND20 and AWATER20

Hi,

I am looking at a table file for a Block file representing IL (tl_2021_17_tabbblock20); two fields I am trying to understand what they represent ALAND20 and AWATER20.  Per what I have found ALAND20 is a 2020 census land area and AWATER20 is a 2020 Census water area.

Ex Block 2033 in FIPS 17043 shows ALAND20 3398997 and AWATER20 62523.  For ALAND20 does the 3398997 represent land area in certain unit such as square feet, meters, or kilometers and for AWATER20 62523 also in Block 2033 represent water in an area measurement?
