I know that there are names that contain special characters, but it seems as if Puerto Rico has more than I remember and I cross-checked against an old list I had and these dont match. I had fun with Connecticut names and changes in the past. I looked here ( https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/technical-documentation/table-and-geography-changes/2023/geography-changes.html) but did not find the changes. Is there a better place that covers name changes and related. I also looked here ( https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/geography/technical-documentation/boundary-change-notes.2023.html#list-tab-1518919262 ).
Any help is appreciated.

Hi,
The following list includes the 78 Puerto Rico Municipios (Counties) with their respective Spanish accent (á, é, í, ó, ú) or special characters (ñ, ü). There are like 16 of the 78 counties with special characters:
tigerweb.geo.census.gov/.../tigerweb_bas25_county_2023_acs23_pr.html
Hope this help.
Best,
Those names haven't changed; that's why you aren't finding them in the geography changes list. Looks like you pasted Unicode codes instead of the correct letter. F1 is the code for ñ, so it's "Añasco", not "A\u00F1asco". Check New Mexico, are you seeing Doña Ana county?
Hi, I am just runing the API and copy directly to excel and or word. They show up this way. I do map to the codes not names, but there seemed to be a lot more than I remember. I see Do\u00F1a Ana County, New Mexico . I am doing the API and copy paste. Maybe next year I'll have AI run Pythin scripts and clean it up. I have standard Win11 and dont want to change the screen or fonts from the defaults etc. (which might help). I pull 87 fields across many tables, and it takes 50 minutes or so and than a day plus to check and get a clean and happy excel table, and then maybe 3-4 days to put something in Tableau. I might pay someone in Fivver $50 to double check a bit Tableau vs the web data because I have so many steps and no one to review except me.
Thanks!
You can probably pass an encoding signal into the API and get back the actual accented letters. I don't use the API myself, but it'll probably be something like encoding=utf-8
