Does the Census Bureau publish a dictionary of the variables available in the ACS Detail Tables?
Where can I ask "Which ACS variable involves ....." to search for the variable name to use?
I have my own list of favorites (B01001e1, B25003e1, B11003 etc), but I'd like to be able to search for more of these names.
I am not sure, but this was recently discussed. This URL https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/technical-documentation/table-shells.html should be what you need. 2023 ACS Detailed Table Shells [1.3 MB]
THIS IS PRICELESS.
Thanks Tom!
Hi, glad I could help (FYI I do know the website (on my bookmarks) but another recent post also had it. I am working (slowly) on a page that pulls ACS-5 data for the last 5 years for any field (I think only details and subject so far) The curated measure are not ready so you need to enter a field name ( B19083_001E ) etc. But a common user question might be what are the fields, cant have pull-down with 40,000 choices. If they know it they can enter it. Do I just have a link to files, or a scroll popup? I have zero bandwidth to think about it and would appreciate any feedback https://tomlaheyh.github.io/Census-ACS-5-data/ its in test mode but it works or should? Again any thoughts are appreciated.
