Hi! I would like to examine the number of migrant and seasonal farm workers but am having trouble identifying tables that might help me with this. So far the only one I've really found is B25004 for the ACS 2015 5YR Estimates, but that only shows vacant housing for migrant workers.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thank you!
Good afternoon Bethany, Thank you for posing your question to the American Community Survey Data Users Group. The ACS covers the topic of migrant workers only in the case of vacant housing units, which is why you only see data on migrant workers for table B25004. It is not asked anywhere else on the survey. However, we ask about related topics such as occupation and whether people have moved within the past year. If you are interested in accessing our County-to-County Migration Flows by Occupation, please visit http://www.census.gov/data/tables/2012/demo/geographic-mobility/county-to-county-migration-2008-2012.html. I believe you can find more direct data on migrant farm workers through other federal surveys/programs. For example, USDA’s Census of Agriculture (https://www.agcensus.usda.gov/Publications/) may be a good place to start. After a quick glance, it looks like they have data on migrant workers in “Table 7: Hired Farm Labor” at https://www.agcensus.usda.gov/Publications/2012/Full_Report/Volume_1,_Chapter_2_US_State_Level/. A colleague of mine also recommended checking out The National Agricultural Workers Survey through the U.S. Department of Labor (https://www.doleta.gov/agworker/naws.cfm). I hope this helps get you started in your search! Best regards, Tyson Weister Survey Statistician, American Community Survey Office
