Comparing ACS estimates to 2010 decennial estimates

I'd like to compare some ACS estimates to decennial Census figures and assess the statistical significance of changes. (In this case, population totals for Congressional districts.)

I don't see margins of error for decennial Census figures, presumably because they are a count of the whole population? Should I assume for the purpose of comparisons that the margins of error and standard errors for decennial figures are zero?

Thanks!

  • You are correct. Since the decennial census is a true census it is not subject to random error measurable using standard statistical techniques, though other types of error could affect the data, just not ones measurable using these methods as I understand matters.
