2020 PUMS US Housing File

Hi - I'm excited to dig into the experimental 2020 ACS PUMS data. I saw the US housing file on the FTP site yesterday after the webinar, but it seems to have disappeared before I could download it. See here: https://www2.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/experimental/2020/data/pums/1-Year/csv_hus.zip. Will this file be re-posted?

  • Hi Dan,

During the release of the 2020 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) with Experimental Weights, files for Puerto Rico (PR) were erroneously posted to the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) site. The PR and combined U.S. files were removed, and the corrected U.S. files were posted to the FTP site at https://www2.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/experimental/2020/data/pums/1-Year/ on 12/1/2021.

The PR files were created using the Census Bureau’s standard internal processing programs used to create the PUMS files each year. The PR files do not include the entropy balance weights that were included in the stateside PUMS files as these entropy balance weights could not be created for Puerto Rico. Therefore, these files do not provide the same statistical benefits that the stateside PUMS files include and should not be used.
  • Hi Gretchen - Thanks for the swift response and explanation! I really appreciate everything you all are doing to address the challenges with the survey.
