This seems to be a basic issue: How does one identify households below the Federal Poverty Level in the ACS PUMS data?
Income and the ratio of income to the Federal Poverty Level (POVPIP) are in the person file. Are there ways to identify households in poverty?
I want to identify households in poverty and look at the composition of these households at the state level. ,
One idea that comes to mind is to join the person and household files, aggregate the personal income values (PINCP) and then apply the Census Poverty Thresholds (https://www.census.gov/data/tables/time-series/demo/income-poverty/historical-poverty-thresholds.html) taking to account household Size (NP)
Is there another method?

Sorry for being so dense. I should use Household Income from the Household File IHINCP) as the income criteria and compare that to the Census Poverty Thresholds (duh).
