    To clarify, since the ACS began in 2005, 5-years of data were not available until 2009.

    for 2008 your only options are 1 year or 3 year data.

    If you get a 2020 census data table through IPUMS NHGIS, it comes with much of the geoheader file content attached, including land area. I.e., you could get 2020 total populations and land areas for 2020 places in a single data file in a single request…

    Have you tried using the summary files? They're a bit clunky, but once you have your code written, it's pretty stable from release to release. I can provide some references to get you started if you're interested.

    OK, S = Subject Tables OR Selected Population Profiles. I assume all tables with an S were Subject tables. I now assume that;

    CP = Comparison Profiles
    DP = Data Profiles
    B = Summary File
    S = Subject Tables OR Selected Population Profiles
