  • RE: 2021 ACS tracts and PUMAS

    David Dorer
    David Dorer

    Dear Andy,

The relationship file that I referenced is for the 2020 PUMAs  (posted on the census website) but they are not in use yet for the current 2021 PUMS data (I use the API).  The relationship file in the post has a lot of PUMAs that do not exist…

  • RE: Missing Block Group data in ACS 2013-2017 text files downloaded from the FTP site

    David Dorer
    David Dorer

I have R code that uses the API to download a single table (or PUMS data ) for a single geography.  The 3 sources API, ftp and data.census.gov don't always produce the same thing.  Especially the PUMS data and missing values.

    Dear Lorna,

Here is some additional documentation that might be useful.

  • Limited English Proficiency (LEP) models

    David Dorer
    David Dorer

Someone posted about LEP and cities.  I have a computer package that will get LEP (Languages Spoken - see PUMS variable LANP - by "Speaks English Well or Not at all" at the tract level. This comes with additional information such as race and poverty. You…

Since the geography only goes down to the state level you can use PUMS data.

  • Source for Statewide 2005 Median Age. ACS? PEP? Other?

    Eric Grosso
    Eric Grosso

I am seeking 2005 statewide median age per ACS. But 2005 ACS is not on census site. Is it on NHGIS?  I looked on NHGIS but don't see it. I'd also accept a median age by if it was included in Census 2005 PEP per the July pop and housing unit estimates.…

  • Small area estimation and the Census Supplemental Poverty Measure

    David Dorer
    David Dorer

    Dear All,

I am continuing to work on my small area estimation package.

The package takes PUMS data along with tract and blockgroup tables and produces "synthetic" PUMS data for tracts and blockgroups.

The package uses "normal" PUMS data for…

I'm somewhat new to using the data, and I'm not familiar with the imputation flag variables. I'll be reading the data accuracy file, but so far, I've just worked through the dictionary: https://www2.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/tech_docs…

Are Egyptians included in an ACS PUMS population estimate grouped as North African or as Middle Eastern?

    Look at

    DP04  Selected Housing Characteristics

If you need to get individual utility costs (may be included in rent) you need to use Microdata (PUMS)
